Position:  Executive Director


The Red Hills Small Farm Alliance (RHSFA) is a non-profit working to helping small farms in the Red Hills Region by strengthening our local food system.  We are our committed to providing economic stability for small farm enterprises; professional farmer development and consumer education; and food access to all citizens in our area.  RHSFA operates the Red Hills Online (RHO) Market which employs a market director and assistants. 


The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance.  The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the RHSFA’s achievement of its mission and financial objectives. It is a salaried, part-time position requiring on average 20 hours/week.  Most activities are during normal business hours, with Board meetings and community events in the evenings, and fundraisers and community events on occasional weekends.

Board and Volunteer Coordination

  • Provide leadership in developing organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board. 

  • Ensure that the board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.

  • Work with Board members to develop and manage revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing operations and expand program offerings.

  • Coordinate volunteers for fundraising activities in concert with event chairs

  • Advise the Board on status of funding and funding needs to permit the RHSFA and RHO Market to carry out current activities and future growth.


Fiscal and Corporate Management

  • Responsible for fiscal management of RHSFA and RHO Market within the approved budget, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. 

  • Identification of and application for grants, and compliance with conditions of awarded grants.

  • Work with accountant to prepare financial reports to the Board 

  • Develop an ongoing plan and budget to permit the RHSFA and RHO Market to carry out its current activities and future sustainability.    

  • Work with the accountant and the Treasurer to prepare an annual budget for Board approval 

  • Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations. 



Red Hills Online Farmers Market

  • Responsible for the recruitment, and supervision of the RHO Market Manager and other staff.  The Executive Committee of the Board approves hiring and firing decisions for the Position of Market Manager.

  • Advise the RHO Market Manager and Staff on the running of the RHO Market and assist the Market Manager in problem solving. 

  • Lead activities of the Board Facilities Committee to obtain and maintain Market facilities.

  • Assist with the recruitment of member customers and farmers.    


Community Outreach

  • Manage and direct marketing and public relations, and fundraising activities.

  • Represent the RHSFA to the community by promoting the activities of the RHSFA, its Market, workshops, programs and goals to the community and local farmers.

  • Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations. 

  • Encourage community participation in RHSFA.   

  • Promote active participation in RHSFA events by both members and volunteers.   

  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and opportunities for outreach in the community.

  • Strong commitment to the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance’s mission and passion for the value of local produced foods and local farming.

  • Business Management skills and experience required

  • Experience in working with non-profit organizations preferred.

  • Computer skills including Excel, and Quick Books

  • Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed

  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups to further the mission of RHSFA.

  • Ability to successfully work with a Board of Directors and cultivate existing board member relationships.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to be a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
