If you made it out to this year’s Tomato Feastival at Turkey Hill Farm, maybe you helped judge the tastiest tomato in the Big Bend, or vied for a delicious cake in the hotly contested cake walk, or maybe you just sat down to a wonderful meal with your family and the new friends you made at the Feastival. If you enjoyed any of those, you can thank the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance.
Or, maybe you remember attending one of the great events during last November’s Seven Days of Local Delights. You may have enjoyed a memorable meal at one of your favorite restaurants that featured vegetables or meats from one of our local farms, or did you learn something new at one of the Seven Days’ workshops? Seven Days of Local Delights is also thanks to the Small Farm Alliance.
Perhaps you shop weekly on the Red Hills Online Farmers Market which connects over 60 area farms and producers with 500 loyal customers. If you do shop RHO, you probably enjoy choosing products from local farms that offer the very best in seasonal vegetables, delicious baked goods, cheeses, preserves or locally farmed meats. And yes, you get the picture…Red Hills Online exists because of the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance.
The Red Hills Small Farm Alliance’s mission is to support economic stability in local small farms, offer professional development to farmers, and expand local food access to everyone in the Big Bend. Thanks to the hard work of many in our community, we have a thriving local food system that benefits both farmers and consumers. But we can and want to do more.
In the 8 years of its existence, the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance’s activities have grown tremendously and it couldn’t have been done without dedicated volunteers and great support from the community. Fun, delicious and educational events like the Tomato Feastival and Seven Days of Local Delights raise charitable donations to help the Alliance fulfill its mission of promoting our local food system and the farmers and producers that are the essential ingredient to it.
This year the Red Hills Small Farm Alliance is launching its first annual capital campaign to help us achieve our mission goals. In particular, the success and growth of the Red Hills Online Market creates the need for us to seek larger quarters. The annual fund will help improve the infrastructure so the market can continue to grow as a place for farmers of all sizes to meet an ever growing customer base in our area.
If you have enjoyed one of the Alliance’s events, or if you want to make sure the online market continues to grow, if you simply want to support RHSFA’s mission and our local farmers, please contribute to this year’s annual fund. RHSFA is a 501 c3 non-profit organization. We are volunteer driven and have very low overhead. Be assured that your dollars will be put to very good use.
